Questions
How accurate is the AR Tape Measure?
The AR Tape Measure uses Apple's ARKit and gives estimates. Accuracy depends on the device, the light, the surface and the distance, and is best in good light on textured surfaces. For anything critical, always check with a physical tape measure.
Which tools are free?
Tape Measure, Level, Flashlight, and Compass are completely free. All other tools and the Projects feature require a Pro subscription.
Does Handy work without an internet connection?
Yes. Every tool works offline and your data lives on your device (and in your own iCloud, if you turn sync on). You only need a connection to buy or restore a subscription.
Why does Handy need camera and sensor permissions?
The camera is used for AR measurements, Color Finder and the document scanner. Motion sensors power the Level, Compass, Plumb Bob and Angle Finder. The microphone is used only by the Noise Meter. Nothing is recorded, and each permission is asked for only when you open the tool that needs it.
Privacy
Handy is designed with privacy at its core. Here's what you should know:
On your device
Measurements, projects and preferences are stored on your phone. iCloud sync is optional, off by default, and goes to your own private iCloud.
Sensors stay live
Camera, motion and microphone data is processed in real time and not recorded. Documents you scan into a project are the one thing that is saved.
Usage analytics
We use AppsFlyer to see which tools are used and where installs come from, tied to a device identifier rather than to you by name.
Your choice
We share a few app events with Meta and TikTok to measure our ads. Your advertising ID is only included if you allow tracking, and you can switch the sharing off in Handy's settings.
